It is perhaps the most ambitious initiative of the Discover the Sea Project. With it we intend to reach the new generations of students, bringing them closer to the beauty of our seabeds and their Biodiversity through live broadcasts of dives in the different Estuaries of Galicia; from their own Educational Centers, in their classes, whether virtual or in-person.
The importance of environmental knowledge in the new generations is vital for the future and conservation of the Seas and Oceans, and for the care and protection of their Biodiversity.
Through the broadcast of different contents we want to show what we are losing and what the irresponsible actions of citizens represent in our day-to-day lives. Because we will not only show the beauty of our Marine environment but also its deterioration and its state of pollution due to bad habits acquired and its direct impact on the Sea.
The contrast between the different environments of beauty and pollution highlights the message and the feeling of empathy among students, which leads to an immediate change in their habits and customs that they will not only adopt for the rest of their lives but will also disseminate and share in their family environment, transmitting the importance of individual responsibility for our actions.
With this action of the Discover the Sea Project we bring the Coast inland. With it we intend to show the beauty of the Sea live to all citizens who, due to their geographical location, cannot experience it normally.
Bringing the Sea directly to their streets and squares so they can enjoy its biodiversity without limitations. Mobility restrictions make contact with the Sea and its knowledge even more difficult, which is why outreach in Public Spaces becomes more important and vital to achieve the individual and collective awareness necessary for caring for the Environment.
This event of the Discover the Sea Project takes us all over the National Territory. We will visit all the Museums and Cultural Centers in contact with the Sea to show from them the life and biodiversity that inhabit their seabeds.
Without having to leave our coasts we can find the most incredible beauty but also the most negative action of our habits; in these enclaves we can directly visualize the impact of our actions and customs without ambiguity.
All this can be seen reflected in the Live Projections of the Underwater Dives in the vicinity of the Museum or Cultural Center.
The Rias Baixas host one of the richest and most productive marine ecosystems in Europe. Its mixture of cold Atlantic waters and upwelling nutrients creates a perfect environment for extraordinary biodiversity. Along the coast, rocky bottoms, sandy areas, mussel rafts, and marsh areas serve as refuge for a wide variety of marine species, birds, and aquatic flora. Furthermore, the balance between traditional human activity —such as artisanal fishing and mussel farming— and the conservation of ecosystems makes this region an example of sustainable coexistence between nature and culture.
